Howto: sell for scrap
I suppose this could be titled "Learn Me", but I just can't bring myself to do it!
I managed to put my track car into the wall a couple of weekends ago. The damage was modest - bent hood, front bumper and side fenders. Given that the car cost me ~ $2,000 and is slow as snot, however, I want to sell it and move on. I don't really want to put the money into fixing it up, as I will have to buy all the new body panels, install them and pay for an alignment, all to sell it for not much more than I bought the car for originally.
I tried getting a quote from an online "we buy scrap cars" website (CarBrain), but they offered me way less than I could get for parting out the car.
Should I just part it out and then try to sell whatever is leftover to a scrap metal yard? Or does anyone have any bright ideas for selling it as-is? I'd prefer not to spend 100s of hours towing various parts all over the east coast, but I also want to maximize my total sale revenue....
The easiest way to sell your scrap metal is to get in touch with a local scrap metal dealer. You may find valuable metal at yard/estate sales, home foreclosure sales, etc. Many people don't realize how much metal can be worth. You can often find large, heavy items for next to nothing at these sales and sell them as scrap for much more than you paid for them. In order to do it legally, don't go out and collect scrap metal, don't sell to anyone who can't show you a license, or even better, use https://www.scrapi.com. One of their great advantages is the fact that when you choose to scrap your car with Scrapi, they do all of the hard work for you, including a free nationwide car collection.
I believe you should sell.
